Eating bird’s spit soup in Bangkok.

I grew up eating bird’s nest and I never knew they were made of bird’s spit until one day, a documentary told me so.

# – A bowl of spit, served with a half boiled egg, gingko nuts and syrup.

Surprisingly, I wasn’t shocked or disgusted. I guess I’ve always been quite gungho and adventurous when it comes to food, I even had a very specific goal of eating dog meat (that’s before I own a dog and vehemently hated pets).

I no longer want to eat dogs and the thought of it and other people doing it truly makes my stomach churns.

# – Mind boggling variety of bird’s nest. The staff tried to convince me to try something that cost a few hundred Ringgit a bowl. Tough luck.

Today I spoke to a friend who’s in China now to study the language and he told me he couldn’t eat pork anymore because his neighbour owns a teacup pig. I can so totally relate.

As much as I really want to own a teacup pig, please don’t give me a teacup pig because I will just stop eating pork, sorry #porkgang. They are so freaking cute!!!!!

# – I went for the cheapest one, RM30 a bowl. I liked that you could control the sweetness of the soup.

Anyway, this was about bird’s nest isn’t it? Sorry about the digression. I just wanted to post some pictures of me eating bird’s spit. I do not have anything intellectual or insightful to speak about this experience of mine.

# – Actually I was most excited about eating the half-boiled egg. Arguably, the bird’s nest made the egg even silkier and tastier.

Have a good weekend, peeps!

No butter, no sugar fluffy pancake recipe.

Fluffy pancakes. One of the most satisfying breakfast options in my humble opinion.

Pass the lips and onto the hips, I know, I know. But really, this recipe is preeeeeetty healthy; no sugar, no egg yolks, no butter but still fluffy and delicious.

# – Fluffy pancakes!!

Without further ado, here’s how to cook these pancakes.

The ingredients:

  • 2 cups of flour
  • 1 3/4 cup of water or milk
  • 1 teaspoon of baking powder
  • 1/2 teaspoon of salt
  • 2 egg whites
  • # – Sift the flour and baking powder into a mixing bowl, twice.

    # – Gently stir in the water or milk.

    # – With a wooden spoon, stir mixture till smooth. The desired consistency is achieved when when a clear line is created after you run your finger on the back of the spoon. If it’s still too thick or too thin, add more flour or liquid accordingly.

    # – In the meantime, beat the egg whites.

    # – When it has reached soft peaks, add the salt.

    # – Continue beating till it holds up when you hold the bowl upside down :D Good luck!

    # – Gently fold in the egg whites into the flour mixture. Fold until it resembles a fully combined, thick, fluffy batter. Be gentle when you’re folding the egg whites in as you do not want to beat all the air out.

    # – Heat up a greased non-stick pan over medium heat and pour one ladle of batter into it. Just let it the batter spread on its own, do not tilt the pan or try to spread it with the back of the ladle.

    # – Let the batter cooks until the top side bubbles and forms holes. This is the sign that it’s time to turn the pancake to cook the other side :) It’s advisable to time how long it took for the batter to form holes so you’d know how long to cook the other side later.

    # – Cook the other side with the same amount of time it took the top to bubble previously.

    # – Serve with whatever you want, fruits, jam etc but I served mine with too many crispy streaky bacons and a sunny side up :D

    # – Drizzle honey or maple syrup all over. HHmmmmm.

    # – Time to eat!

Hope you like these fluffy, pillowy pancakes ;)

    Oktoberfest 2011 at Weissbrau, Pavillion.

Was at Weissbrau, Pavillion for the launch of Oktoberfest. Great booze and great food.

Yeah I know everybody knows I can’t hold my drinks but I would like to categorically state that I drank an entire half pint of Franziskaner without dozing off. That, is an achievement worth blogging about. And no, I didn’t dilute it with ice!!!!

    # – I swallow.

Calling it the Frankensteiner and failing my self-administrated walk the line sobriety test after are events that did not take place.

    # – There were hot girls in short skirts.

    # – Pork knuckle and potato rosti, yums.

    # – Cheesy potato pancake with a sunny side up. Ridiculously good!

    # – LL having a go at the awesome pizza. The pizzas at Weissbrau must be one of the best I’ve ever tasted.

    # – Dudes boozin’.

    # – Then they ordered these, because they saw a middle-aged lady at another table nonchalantly drinking it. Challenge accepted. Deep gave up, wahahahahahahaha.

By the way, on a totally unrelated note, I wore this to Weissbrau. Thrifted it for like 80 Baht or RM8 at Pratunam Market, Bangkok. Best purchase EVERRRR!

    # – Not so little long black dress. Love the bottom of the skirt.

    # – Heavy fabric that hangs beautifully.

    Okay that’s all!
