Seriously best roast duck I have ever eaten – Restaurant De’ Champion Duck in Kepong

We have seen this restaurant numerous times as our favourite pork noodles joint is on the same row, but never tried it as the place always seemed rather quiet.

Until one hot afternoon. I think we weren’t quite sure what to eat, so we decided to give the place a try.

Afterall, everytime we passed by it, there were always rows of delicious looking roast ducks hung at the front of the shop.

The restaurant is called Restaurant De’ Champion Duck.

As usual, the restaurant was pretty quiet, but I reckoned it was because we were there pretty early.

# – Don’t understand why so quiet one.

We ordered 3 types of meats – roast duck, charsiew and roast chicken.

The charsiew was legit, great ratio of meat and fat and melted in my mouth. The roast chicken was tender with crispy skin but not that memorable.

# – Glistening charsiew.

# – Unmemorable roast chicken.

As for the duck…I was blown away! Never had I ate a chinese roast duck with such crispy skin and tender meat before. And it’s all around crispy, not just as certain places. The gravy was also proper – you could tell it was cooked from genuine duck drippings….and not substantiated with too much corn flour and sugar.

So delicious!

The last time we had such a good experience with roast duck was Onn Kee in Kepong, but their quality has since dropped. I would say the roast duck at De’ Champion Duck is better than the heydays of Onn Kee!

Served with the yellowish, fluffy oily rice, obviously cooked with either chicken or duck stock – fabulous!

We also ordered the mustard stew (choi kiok). It was rich and flavoursome, but a tad too spicy and not tart enough for me.

They also sell braised duck wings, which we didn’t try. Not too sure about them haha.

I highly recommend this place for roast duck and charsiew!

8am. My alarm rang. Far too early!

I nudged the husband who was still fast asleep. He woke up just long enough to murmur something unintelligible. I said, “Check-up today…..”. Still, murmurs.

I decided to let him continue sleeping. Made my way to the hospital, which is only 10 minutes drive from home.

The doctor wasn’t my regular obgyn. She’s some kind of detailed scan expert, very nice lady. Greeted me with a firm handshake and a smile, I loveeeeeeeeee women who are in control.

I got onto the examination bed and pulled my skirt down a little. Spider legs greeted my eyes, made a mental note to shave.

She squeezed cold gel onto my lower abdomen and stuck the scanning thingamajig onto my skin.

“You want to know the gender?”, she asked.

“Yes please!!”

But doctor was totally delaying my gratification. First, she showed me the baby’s skull and heart, could even see the heart chambers! Then she showed me the neck, fingers and toes.

# – Baby!

Finally, she showed me the private bits. “Can you see the triangle?”

“Yeah….”

“Congratulations, you’re having a boy.”

“Really?”

“Yes, 100%. In fact I will give you 101%”

So happy to hear the news. While I wish Gareth was with me to hear it, but I think it’s a different good feeling to hear it by myself. Kind of like my own moment with the baby :)

I called Gareth immediately. He was still a bit groggy. I told him that we’re having a boy, and I must say the effect was better than a shot of espresso hehe.

Have we thought of a name? Yes. In fact, we’ve got 3 boy’s names and 2 girl’s names down since a couple of years ago, way before we were even planning to have babies.

We thought if it didn’t work out we could give them names to our dogs. Kidding!!!!

My beef with people washing car during water rationing!

I haven’t been hiding my feelings about people who wash their cars during this epic water rationing. I think it’s an incredibly selfish and uncultured behaviour! SHAME ON YOU!

Seriously, we are having water shortage! That means there is not enough water for everyone for basic things like cooking, drinking, laundry and showering. What makes you think washing your car should be a priority during this time?

Cars are almost always exposed to elements anyway, they can take years of sun, wind and dusts. A few months won’t do jack shit to its paint job, especially those of you who’ve already had expensive nanocoating thingamajigs.

Sure, I too like to my car all clean and shiny but hey, if that means longer water rationing period and risks of losing clean drinking water…I say fuck this. The car can wait. The porch can wait. The pee can wait for a wee more.

Using treated water to wash your car during water rationing is not only disgusting, it reeks of ignorance, selfishness and stupidity.

I’ve actually told off a few friends and they said their windscreens got too dirty and it gets dangerous while on the road. Fair point but still that doesn’t need a full-blown car wash.

What I do personally is use the sponge/squeegee at petrol stations to clean the windscreens, in fact I use it to rub off nasty bird shit too.

Not hard, is it?

If you still need a shiny car cause you have a complex or something, try waterless car wash options. Google it!

Otherwise, don’t complain about having no water or low water pressure etc. If you’re not going to start with yourself, who are you to complain about the government.

Stop wasting our water. Stop wasting my water, you stupid douchebag.
