Festive CNY dining at Ti Chen, Saujana Golf & Country Club.

I had my first lou yee sang at Ti Chen, Saujana Golf & Country Club. Fresh, succulent salmon with a variety of freshly julienned vegetables and colourful crispy yam strips, peanuts, crackers and many more, topped with a delicious concoction of plum sauce and sesame oil.

Absolutely beautiful, absolutely auspicious!

If you’re not a salmon person, you could also choose to have abalone, jellyfish or even a vegetarian version. Price of the yee sang dishes start from RM38.

# – Tossing yee sang, higher the better. HUAT AHHHH!

Ti Chen recently underwent a refurbishment and what a transformation it has made!

# – For those that can’t read chinese ;)

The new look is a breath of fresh air – modern & elegant and yet still very oriental. Plush seatings dotted the establishment with luxurious wooden panels segmenting the space for more privacy and large windows allowing a lot of natural light in.

# – The waiting area is comfortable.

# – Part of the dining area.

Of course, the view of the golf course was also very welcoming. Green, calm and tranquil.

# – Good view.

As for the food, Ti Chen did not disappoint at all.

# – The Roasted Chicken with Dong Guai was divine. With crispy aromatic skin and juicy, flavourful & silky flesh. Even the chicken breasts were tender, something I believe only a very skillful and experienced Chef could achieve.

# – The Stir-fried Prawns with Seasoned Salt was so good, I had more than one helping. The prawns were so crispy I could practically devour the entire thing – head, shell and all.

# – I really enjoyed the Steamed Red Snapper with Superior Soya Sauce too. The fish was fresh & flaky, with the delicious soya sauce delicately permeating the flesh. It’s a very clean-tasting dish, tasty and healthy all at the same time.

# – Next on the table – Braised Sea Cucumber with Fish Maw, Dried Oysters and Fatt Choy. The fish maw was of premium quality so they are very different from those that are normally deep-fried into puffs. According to the manager, this kind of premium fish maw is very good for the health of the lungs and for people with asthmatic symptoms. I of course, had quite a lot of them…hehe. Flavoursome and not at all cloying. Absolutely luxurious & befitting of a celebratory meal.

# – Of course, chinese new year must eat rice also so always have rice in life :) This is Chef Special “Loh Mai Fun”, basically glutinouse rice steamed with dried shrimps wrapped in aromatic lotus leaves. The rice was cooked just right, it was neither grainy nor too pudgy (for lack of better word). I absolutely enjoyed it, it was really delicious eaten with the Braised Sea Cucumber with Fish Maw, Dried Oysters and Fatt Choy too.

# – We ended lunch with a soft mochi filled with red bean paste. The skin was thin and the filling was not too sweet. It was a nice finale to a superb lunch.

All these dishes are packaged into the Pearl Set with 8-course dishes, which at RM888++ comes with a complimentary bottle of Misterio Cabernet Sauvignon.

There are also other sets; The Jade Set at RM988++ comes with a bottle of Johnnie Walker Black Label 12 years while the Golden Set is priced at RM1,398++ and comes with a bottle of Hennessy VSOP. Lastly, the Emperor Set at RM2288++ comes with a bottle of Singleton Single Malt Whisky 12 years.

Superb baby back ribs at Racks, Changkat Bukit Bintang.

One day, we found ourselves at Racks, a newly opened restaurant at Changkat Bukit Bintang. Thanks Winnie for the invite! I suppose there’s no need for guessing what Racks specialises in ;)

# – The interior of Racks.

# – Racks has booze too.

Yeap, they’ve got plenty of booze. In fact, they have test tube shooters going for RM200 for 12 tubes. The Molotov – consist of vodka, tequila, Jack Daniels and Tabasco, which I didn’t try due to sheer fear.

Test Tube Babies on the other hand were made with vodka, peach schnapps and a dash of cranberry…it was smooth and delicious! Illusion is mixture of Midori melon, pineapple juice and vodka, which was pretty tasty too…and potent ;)

# – Think I was posing with Test Tube Babies.

As for the food….yummers! First brought out were appetisers called Special Pigs in Special Blankets which were essentially spiced oxford sausages wrapped in speck ham. Served alongside Peaches N Parma, grilled sweet peaches wrapped in thin savoury parma hams, they made a great medley of flavours.

# – Special Pigs in Special Blankets (RM24) & Peaches N Parma (RM22).

Next was Angels in Parma, which were live pacific oysters wrapped in oysters. This was a winner for me as I LOVEEEEEE oysters!

# – Angels in Parma (RM32).

At this point, I was a little fearful of the lack of fibres on the menu but my fears were unfounded as they then served Asparagus Under Prosciutto. The asparagus were fresh, young, crunchy and was a great vehicle to deliver the prosciutto into my mouth :D

# – Asparagus Under Prosciutto (RM22).

Obviously, Racks believed we haven’t been fed with enough meat for they popped out with a huge cold meat platter. My mouth couldn’t stop watering. Lovely cold cuts served with jam, pickles, mustard and fresh bread – all made in-house. It was delicious and an interesting dish as every mouthful was different from the one before.

# – Cuts, Pickles, Jams, Mustards & Breads

And then, out came the burgers and sandwiches. They were all pretty good. My only complaint was that the Pulled Pork Burger was not moist enough. The flavours were superb but I like my pulled pork moist and messy.

# – Pulled Pork Burger (RM28).

The pork burger was amazing. Juicy, flavoursome, thick pork patty, topped with sun dried tomatoes and crispy bacon sandwiched between two soft buns AND then topped off with more crispy bacons. The picture is not much, but you’ve got to try it!

# – Racks’ Pork Burger (RM28).

Finally, they served their namesakes…the baby back ribs! The ribs were braised and glazed on the spit to perfection. The meat literally fell off the bones, it’s that good. I found the pricing really reasonable too, RM52 for a full rack while 1/2 rack goes for RM32.

The Hot & Spicy racks is more like a typical BBQ racks with a special sauce they call “Torture Sauce”. Hmmmm. It’s good but my favourite was actually the Sticky & Sweet, serve with marmalade glaze.

# – Hot & Spicy 1/2 rack (RM32).

# – Sticky & Sweet Full Rack (RM52). IT’S HUGE!

I’d definitely go back again, especially for the ribs! I hope they would come out with more flavours too…what we’re lacking in KL is a place that has proper baby back ribs!

Thank you Racks for a great time and the superb food :)

# – High and happy.

Oktoberfest 2011 at Weissbrau, Pavillion.

Was at Weissbrau, Pavillion for the launch of Oktoberfest. Great booze and great food.

Yeah I know everybody knows I can’t hold my drinks but I would like to categorically state that I drank an entire half pint of Franziskaner without dozing off. That, is an achievement worth blogging about. And no, I didn’t dilute it with ice!!!!

# – I swallow.

Calling it the Frankensteiner and failing my self-administrated walk the line sobriety test after are events that did not take place.

# – There were hot girls in short skirts.

# – Pork knuckle and potato rosti, yums.

# – Cheesy potato pancake with a sunny side up. Ridiculously good!

# – LL having a go at the awesome pizza. The pizzas at Weissbrau must be one of the best I’ve ever tasted.

# – Dudes boozin’.

# – Then they ordered these, because they saw a middle-aged lady at another table nonchalantly drinking it. Challenge accepted. Deep gave up, wahahahahahahaha.

By the way, on a totally unrelated note, I wore this to Weissbrau. Thrifted it for like 80 Baht or RM8 at Pratunam Market, Bangkok. Best purchase EVERRRR!

# – Not so little long black dress. Love the bottom of the skirt.

# – Heavy fabric that hangs beautifully.

Okay that’s all!
