Faith is over-rated.

I’ve been reading this book called The God Delusion by Richard Dawkins. Basically, the entire book disapproves of the concept of god and meticulously disproves the existence of it.

Why do people believe in god? Why do people blindingly believe in something that has never been remotely proven to be true? Why do people waste so much money and time on religion? Why is it okay for people to do hurtful things as long as they’re in the name of religion? Why is it frown upon to lose faith rather than being celebrated as an achievement of freedom? Why do people get penalised or worse, killed for not believing or adhering? Why do some animals get discriminated because of fools who mistranslated some religious scripts? Why don’t religions get on with time?

Why burn offerings to your god on the side of a road where parking is already scarce and pollute our already ailing environment? Why taint my Chinese New Year celebrations by giving me a red greeting card which includes description of how the colour red signifies the blood spilled by the son of god? Why can’t I walk my dog in peace without getting dirty looks?

I once worked with a girl who stressed out so much because her mother would pressure her into spending hundreds of Ringgit into buying offerings to be burnt away. This is a girl who earned so little she couldn’t fix her car or sometimes, make payments for the car loan. Apparently all these issues did not matter to the mother.

Will the world be a peaceful place if everyone had one same faith? Does religion cancel out ill thoughts and human’s thirst for power & money? Seriously? Lets say it is possible to convert EVERYONE on this planet to one religion, then what? Will there be no more suicides, gossips, bribery, murders and rapes? Do religious people truly believe that having one single whatever faith will make the world a better place? If you answered yes, I can understand why you’re religious in the 1st place.

I mean all of us non-religious people could probably answer all the questions above, but the book truly explored them and more.

According to Dawkins, some people are religious because apparently religions teach one to be moral, ethical and the whole shebang. But it’s pretty obvious that you don’t need a religion to impart these qualities into a person, right? I mean personally, none of my parents are religious but yet I’ve been taught to be considerate to other people and to stay away from crimes basically. So why don’t just cut out the middleman and get straight to attaining those qualities?

You may argue that there are people who practise religions the wrong way and shouldn’t be clumped together with people who practise them properly. But you can’t deny that all these instances of stupidity and inconsideration did begin with a blind faith in a delusion, no?

i heart junk food.

Help! I can’t stop eating Crispy M&M’s. Yesterday I bought 6 of the blue packets and have so far finished 4 of them. It’s kind of like eating Maltesers but without all the messiness thanks to the candy shells. Gawd, I love them so much.

I’m tempted to empty out the remaining 2 packets but something inside is telling me to get a bloody grip.

Sudden intense craving for Crispy M&M’s aside, I’ve also been drinking nothing but Mountain Dew for the past 2 weeks. It’s really bad, I know but I’m in a phase and it will pass soon (I hope). From just buying one small bottle, I’ve resorted to getting a few big bottles at one time. I’m literally not making ice fast enough to match my Mountain Dew binge. Soon enough I won’t be buying toothpaste fast enough to counter my deteriorating teeth!

Anyway, here’s a sneak peek of our kitchen. Contractor is done tiling the walls and floors and is currently building the countertop. I LOVE my walls, they look like the surface of a golf ball. Hahaha.

Speaking of tiles, we were at MML Gallery last weekend and they have this massive mosaic mural:

Tell me what you think :D

From another point of view….

An old story from The Smoking Gun about a perverted man has been making the rounds again on the Internet. Travis Frey is being charged for kidnapping and raping his own wife, which sounds like a run of the mill domestic abuse till this….there’s a contract involved. Investigators had found that he had drawn up an over the top document called, “Contract of Wifely Expectations”.

Woweee! You can’t get more chauvinistic than “Contract of Wifely Expectations”. The contract consists of gems like “you must be naked within 20 minutes of the kids being in bed”, “all skirts are no lower than 2 inches below the knee – unless it’s for Church”, “panties are optional but need not be worn” and many more.

There’s even a special category dedicated to shaving where the wife is expected to shave her legs, pubic areas (which by the way, were specifically defined as “naval to anus”) and underarms on every third day of the week. There were also dimension specifications on exactly how big the rectangle patch of hair above her vaginal slit should be. Man, I feel dirty already.

You’d think that living with such a demanding and chauvinistic man would make her dump his sorry ass much earlier eh? But no, the wife had been with him for 9 whole years! 9 whole years of shaving every third day of the week and 9 whole years of not being able to wear comfortable underwear! Seriously, I’d love to see a picture of the wife because she must be one sexy hot thing! Then again, there’s no black & white on what she can or cannot eat so I might just be wrong.

What possess a woman to stay so long with such a man? Did she like being controlled? Was she frightened into staying? Was it just a love game gone wrong? There are not many facts on their history together as a couple to make any conclusion but I suspect the crumbling of the marriage was very likely related to the fact that Travis Frey collected child pornography (and therefore deserves whatever shit that is thrown his way).

Without factoring in the child pornography, kidnap and rape, I have to admit that I find the contract rather sexy. Is it just me or does anyone else find the idea of the contract strangely alluring?

When I said dirty, I didn’t really mean it in a bad way ;)
