The Best Popiah in the World

Is in Malacca.

It’s one of the food that we most look forward to whenever we go to Malacca. Do you know why it’s so damn good?

Ladies & gentlemen, because of this magic ingredient….

#Pork lard!!!

The popiah stall is operated by an old man who looks about 160 years old. While he is awesomesauce at making popiahs, his memory is a bit fail. You have to be a little patient with the man because he doesn’t really seem to remember faces very well. Although I was standing there for a while, he asked me at least 4 times how many popiahs I wanted, while he was making my order, hahaha.

#Expert popiah maker.

As far as I know, he doesn’t really have a fixed location where he operates his stall but it’s always along Jonker Street. I’m not sure what time he operates as well but I guess if you go around lunch time should be about right.

#Weathered hands.

Except for the pork lard, his popiah ingredients are pretty standard but always piping hot and fresh.

#Fried shallots, beansprouts, braised radish, braised cabbage, diced omelette, lettuce, chilli and the special sauce. And the superstar ingredient: pork lard!

The best way to eat it is when it’s freshly made. The filling is still hot and juicy but the thin crepe skin is not yet soggy. I’ve tried the other supposedly better stall at Jalan Bunga Raya operated by a younger fella who also uses pork lard but he is a bit too generous with his braised radish thus his popiahs only taste of that – braised radish. I still much prefer this old man one :)

#Yummeh!

Along Jonker Street, Malacca.
RM2.00 per roll.
Can survive journey to KL as long as you don’t put the beansprouts & cabbage in. Still as delicious! :)

BMW EfficientDynamics – Day 2

This is a continuation of my last post on BWM EfficientDynamics.

After the awesome night of food, jenga and bubblies, we had to wake up very early for a mysterious activity. They wouldn’t tell us what it was but as we eventually found out, we’re going rafting! Bamboo rafting!!

#1 – Bamboo rafting!

So old school! I was worried at first but the raft was actually very sturdy!

#2 – Me and KY testing it on far right.

It wasn’t easy to row though. We had these two bamboo sticks as paddles -_-

#3 – ST was my partner.

Eventually, we got tired and cheated by anchoring ourselves to the speedboat hahaha.

#4 – Hehe cheat!

After the session, we packed up to leave the beautiful Belum Resort :(

Not before some camwhoring of course…

#5 – With Michael, the formerly anonymous blogger.

#6 – With ST.

#7 – Posing with the 520D Sports.

We also got to check out the RM19,000 BMW bicycles. OMG!

#8 – RM19,000.

I also tried the nifty bicycle rack. Can just put the bicycle on top of the X5 with no effort.

#9 – Kena BMW bicycle grease.

#10 – Group pic!

For the journey back, we got to drive the 520d Sports. It was certainly plusher than the 320D but not as agile. But felt really, really safe. The brakes really eat the tarmac one. It’s also my 1st time seeing such a futuristic gear knob.

#11 – Check this gear knob out!

Needless to say, the journey back was awesomesauce. We tickled the trottle, sometimes we also had to slaughter it, as Ivan Khong aptly put.

#12 – Car No. 4.

Last but not least, a picture with the madly impressive, sifu Ivan Khong.

#13 – With Ivan Khong.

Sadly, all good things have to end. We reached KLCC with sadness and melancholy. Back to my @suzyganas and the boring reality. That said, this was a once in a lifetime opportunity and I’m glad I was chosen to do it :)

Remember guys, diesel is the shiznit!

Getting MyKad and loving the land I spilt my blood on.

After Mom nagged me for the umpteenth time, I decided to go settle my problem that was MyKad. The boyfriend was to accompany me for the trip to the underbelly of the civil service. Initially, I wanted him to wake up at 6.30am but all I got was a “curt” response, so to speak. So after lazing in the bed for half the day, at 2pm yesterday, I called up the HQ of National Registration Department to find out if there were any queue number left. She answered in the positive. We made lunch, ate them and prepped up. Finally, around 2.30pm we made our way to Putrajaya.

We reached Putrajaya around 3pm.

turning onto mainroad

The almost deserted city of Putrajaya.

The signages weren’t very well placed in Malaysia’s centre of administration and we got a bit lost for a while trying to locate the office. Bf (being a man and all) requested that I ask for directions from a shaddy looking man driving a school van. I was a bit hesitant, but I did anyway and discovered that the dude gave the clearest directions. Never judge a book by its cover!

found JPN!

We found JPN!

The MyKad department is at the 2nd floor. I knew of the place from a kind member of staff who saw me wandering aimlessly on 1st floor. I didn’t get lost because I didn’t understand Bahasa Malaysia, but the language used were so bombastic that I had no freakin’ idea what they’re saying.

queue number

Only 2 people ahead of me. W00t!

I was relieved to find that the office was not very packed. I’m guessing it’s because it was an odd time and a weekday.

Getting my thumb print. No more dirty ink!

It was my turn before I knew it. She typed in my IC number and double confirmed with me every data on my profile. I gave her my driving license and told her that I wanted to store it on MyKad. Instead of taking my driving license, she showed me another window which detailed the information on my driving license. Next she showed me the details of my passport. Such evidence of data integration suddenly got me really proud of my country.

Oh, and I had to pay RM10 as a penalty for missing the deadline last year. No complaints there cause I thought it was RM30. I indicated where I want my MyKad to be collected and proceeded to have my picture taken. I was glad that they had a mirror installed on the camera so I could watch how I looked like. No more ugly IC picture days :) I am to call them after a month to see if the card will be ready for collection. And that was all, only about 15 minutes of my life spent in a government office.

With more time to kill, we decided to do some sightseeing in Putrajaya. I had a field time playing the homegirl role.
