Pom Pom Island

Just got back from 5D/4N holiday on Pom Pom Island, an island in Sabah. Pretty awesome name, right?

Pom Pom Island is pretty near to Sipadan. We stayed at Celebes Beach Resort (CBR), which I highly recommend.

It’s a 3 hour flight to Tawau from KL, then airport transfers (1.5 hours van ride, Tawau – Semporna + 1 hour boat ride, Semporna – Pom Pom) were all handled by CBR. There’s no public water transport to Pom Pom, you’d need a resort to take you there and there are only two resorts on the small island of Pom Pom.

# – Crazy clear water.

This was my very first dive after Lasik, so I was understandably excited. Finally, I got to see everything clearly!

# – Group pic with diving buddies! Can you guess which one is me??

I clocked in a total of 11 dives on this trip, which included two night dives. The dive sites were amazing. The visibility was easily 20metres or more! Also hardly any current, which I love hehehe. But most of all, sharp & clear sight of everything /sniffs

# – Rejoicing over a superb dive in Mataking.

Saw loads of turtles, flute fish, coral fish, eels, rays and even a large barracuda named Charlie!

Currently suffering from island life withdrawal :(

Introducing my hair stylist & quick onion gravy recipe for everything.

I have stopped getting my hair dyed in salons. Don’t believe in them anymore, maybe I don’t know how to be more assertive when it comes to my hair, I always feel damn pressured to take the colour they recommend and then end up not liking it.

That’s not the worst, worst is when I go back to get the roots retouched, always end up a different colour -____- And it’s the same salon by the same person!????

I’ve given up already. Don’t like spending hundreds and then feel like a dumbass with bad hair later.

Apparently salon dye won’t damage hair so much….please la, all same! I have come to the conclusion that one’s hair can only look nice temporarily with the right products unless you’re born with naturally nice hair.

So I’ve ditched professional dyes. At last, I no longer need to get all hopeful and stuff when these hair people tell me if I do this treatment and that treatment and use that brand of dye bla bla bla my hair will look better.

Ya, they will look better……for 1/2 a day. I’m sick of getting my heart broken gawddamnit!

Anyway have taken matters into my own hands…I’ve got a personal hair dyer now. He’s thorough, he’s professional and he’s white. White people touch anything also can be better mah!

# – Ladies & gentlemen, my new hair stylist.

Never have I been so pleased with my hair colour. Root touch-ups always match the ends because my colour is always available at pharmacies & retail stores nationwide and doesn’t just disappear because the stylist forgot what he or she used on me or they’ve brought in new brands. Best of all, it cost less than RM30.

# – By the way, the hair colour I use is Revlon Medium Blonde.

===========================================================

So you’ve seen my Toad in the Hole, now it’s time to learn how to make gravy to go with it.

I’m a little embarrassed to share this actually, because it’s a total cop-out where gravy is concerned but hey, sometimes you just need gravy quick.

By sometimes, I mean pie time, roast time, mash time and of course yorkshire pudding time. And many more.

The ingredients:

  • 2 onions, thinly sliced
  • 2 beef stock cubes
  • 500 ml of water
  • 3 tablespoons of corn flour
  • # – Saute onions with a bit of oil in a saucepan.

    # – When onions have started caramelising, pour the water in.

    # – Then crumble in two beef stock cubes. Stir until dissolved.

    # – Dissolve 3 tablespoons of corn flour with several spoons of water. Whisk the solution in until mixture becomes thicker.

    # – Onion gravy, DONE! By the way, we got the gravy boat from a dodgy store called Yinma for only RM2.90. Score!

You can make this with chicken stock cube and use it with roast chicken. Yums.

How to curl hair with socks. Yes, with socks.

I don’t know about you but I’m one of those women that can’t handle a curling tong. I always ended up burning my forehead, ears or fingers. Nevermind burning myself, but the hair always looked frazzled and frizzy after so I might as well not do anything.

I wish I could be good at using a curling tong or even ordinary curling rolls but sadly, some people are just born without any hair curling talent in their genes.

One day, I stumbled upon this video on youtube that teaches you how to curl your hair with socks. Yeap, the kind that you wear on your feet. I was intrigued.

    What you need:

  • Socks, several pairs (more socks for more curls)
  • A spritzer bottle filled with water
  • Leave-in conditioner (optional)
  • # – Fill up a spritzer bottle with water and add some leave-in conditioner if you want.

    # – Looks like white cendols. Shake the bottle until combined.

    # – Prepare socks. Clean ones, please :)

    # – My pre-curled hair. My gawd T_T

    # – Get a section of your hair, smooth it down with your fingers.

    # – Spray the water+conditioner solution on it to damp up the hair. Just damp, not soaked.

    # – Now get a sock, wrap the ends of the hair around the sock then roll sock towards your scalp.

    # – Then tie a knot with both ends of the sock. Don’t tie it loose but not too tight either.

    # – Repeat with the rest of your hair.

    # – Close-up of socks in my hair.

I actually slept with the socks in my hair. It’s very comfortable, like having another layer of billowy pillow under my head haha. I’m quite a rowdy sleeper yet I woke up with all the socks still intact.

If you don’t feel like sleeping with the socks in your hair, try to leave them on for at least 5 hours.

    # – When it’s time to unveil the curls, untie the sock and gently ease it out of the hair.

    # – Remove the rest of socks from hair.

    # – Yay, curls! With your fingers, gently tease them with your fingers for desired hairstyle.

    # – I went to a dance music festival with these curls and they lasted me through sweating & dancing for half a day, albeit a little limp in the end. Impressed!

I think this is a much healthier way to curl hair as well. Hope this tutorial helps you girls out there with difficulties in using curling tongs like me.
